Since being nominated for Best African Act at the MOBOs in 2015, Nigerian born South London musician Moelogo has been making waves in music. Last year saw the release of his successful EP Ìréti, he blessed us with the heartfelt Shine Your Light earlier this year and most recently lent his vocals to popular British DJ Jonas Blue for We Could Go Back.
NU People: When did you start making music?
Moelogo: At 16, but professionally at the age of 18.
NU People: What inspires you?
Moelogo: My family and surroundings but also everyday life and what’s happening around the world.
NU People: How would you describe your music?
Moelogo: Feel good, unique and out of this world.
NU People: When did you move to London and how does living here inspire your music?
Moelogo: I moved to London when I was 10 years old and living here has really inspired the tone of my music and certain melodies in my songs. The London lifestyle also creates a certain type of story.
NU People: How did Ìréti come about?
Moelogo: If I’m to be honest, I ask myself the same question every time, but I truly believe it’s a divine revelation from God.
NU People: You recently featured on a song with Jonas Blue, how did that come about?
Moelogo: I was contacted by an amazing songwriter named Jin Jin who asked me to come down to do a demo. Straight away I asked for the location, not knowing what and who I was going to be working with, and that’s how the track with Jonas blue came to life.
NU People: How important is collaboration with other artists in different genres?
Moelogo: Collaboration is essential but it definitely has to be mutual and not forced.
NU People: Who has been your favourite person to collaborate with?
Moelogo: Everyone I’ve worked with has been amazing and I wouldn’t change it for the world.
NU People: Do you have any other projects or collaborations you are currently working on?
Moelogo: You’ll have to wait and see.
NU People: What do you owe your success to?
Moelogo: I pray to God, I pray to God, I pray to God. I respect my parents, I keep my heart clean and I never lose hope, no matter what.
