Awe-inspiring collections from island based designers including Meiling and Lois Samuels, and livening performances from artists Fuse ODG and R&B princess Ashanti, were the highlights at the Caribbean FashionWeek 2017 this weekend in Jamaica.
South London based artist and champion of ‘New Africa’ Fuse ODG performed and debuted his NANA fashion collection on the international runway, followed by an energetic performance by Grammy award winning artist Ashanti who performed well known hits such as “Foolish” and her duet with Ja Rule “Always on time”.
Showcasing his new collection Fuse ODG said:
“I’m honoured to have brought my new Africa message to Jamaica through my music, and having debuted NANA on the Caribbean FashionWeek runway. We teamed up with two talented designers to bring the vision of the clothing line alive. VA Designs for menswear and Karentino for womenswear. I was a fan of their work and reached out to them as I knew were the right people for the job. The results speak for themselves.
Caribbean FashionWeek welcomed collections including ‘The Vessel’ by Lois Samuels, while Meiling’s new ‘Parallels 2′ collection looks set to inspire summer island wardrobes. Some of Jamaica’s most successful models including Jimmy Choo campaign star Jeneil Williams and Vogue cover girl Alicia Burke – the midwife turned model Stella McCartney, Ralph Lauren, and Dolce & Gabbana can’t get enough of, return to the runway.
